NBC Local Integrated Media
At NBC Local Integrated Media I was Senior Web User Interface Developer on the team who built their powerfully modular web content management and publishing system. It enabled editors to flexibly create and customize distinct local news sites. I was an integral part of the original team and built many of the key components. We launched 9 city sites, including nbcnewyork.com, nbcchicago.com, and nbclosangeles.com. We followed with a dining site, a fashion site, and a redesign. Those were the first two years.
My responsibilities included creating application logic, code modules, page templates, front end components, and complicated user interactions. I coded in velocity, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and Flash. Notable projects include the interactive Flash design and media navigation centerpiece, Lists, and the Slideshow Player.
Building a modular system for customized web publishing was great experience for my later role as Product Manager of the Reuters White Label Web Publishing Platform. Developing complicated user interactions for digital media contributed to a great background for designing user experiences. Collaborating to develop our application from design through QA, launch, redesign, and re-launch I traversed the full software development life cycle, twice.
The Local Integrated Media division was at the forefront of NBC's digital media strategy, with much of its leadership coming from team who led the successful Hulu launch. We promoted and utilized many Agile development methodologies as we drove NBC to transition away from their traditional waterfall approach. My experiences there enrich my perspective as Product Manager, and provide guidance leading software design and development teams, particularly for digital media initiatives.
